Want to qualify for higher-paying quality control jobs?

The American Society for Quality (ASQ) offers Certified Quality Engineer certification for professionals in the quality field that meets recognized national and international credentialing industry standards for program development, implementation, and maintenance. Achieving certification can increase your confidence and give you the credibility to advance your quality assurance and control career.

What Is Quality Engineer Certification?

According to ASQ, a certified quality engineer “understands the principles of product and service quality evaluation and control.” Gaining CQE certification assures potential employers that you have the expertise, knowledge, and experience to implement and manage quality engineering processing. The CQE exam covers topics that include:

  • Development and operation of quality control systems
  • Application and analysis of testing and inspection procedures
  • Metrology and statistical methods to diagnose and correct improper quality control practices
  • Quality cost concepts and techniques
  • Development and administration of management information systems to audit and correct quality systems

Boost Your Income With CQE Certification

Although recent salary data from ASQ is exclusive to organization members, certified quality engineers have historically earned at least 12% more per year than non-certified colleagues.

How to Get CQE Certification

All candidates for quality engineering certification must have worked in a full-time paid role and have eight years of on-the-job experience in an area outlined in the Quality Engineer Body of Knowledge. Three of those years must be in a decision-making role, which may or may not include management positions. Candidates with college or technical school degrees can have part of the experience requirement waived, depending on their level of education.

The ASQ offers study guides and references to help you prepare for the exam, which consists of multiple-choice questions. The fee for the exam is $533, with ASQ members receiving a $100 discount.

Achieving quality engineer certification shows potential employers that you understand the principles of excellence and control for products and services—and can manage and implement processes that will help their business. Certification can give you a competitive edge in your job search and the ability to command a higher salary. If you’re looking to take the next step in your quality engineering career, becoming a CQE may help you level up!
