KEEPING YOUR BEST & BRIGHTEST: PrideStaff Releases 2015 Employee Retention Survey Findings and Recommendations

PrideStaff has released the results of its 2015 Employee Retention Survey, designed to gauge retention issues and trends across the U.S. Conducted in March, the online survey was completed by nearly 600 individuals, representing a wide range of industries and company sizes.

Overall, the results show that better opportunity and pay are the chief drivers of voluntary turnover. Throughout the remainder of 2015, 14 percent of employers expect turnover rates to increase and 47.8 percent expect rates to stay the same. Despite the persistence of this workforce issue, however, few companies have a detailed plan for minimizing turnover and its impact. Over 61 percent of employers say that they “deal with turnover on a case-by-case basis and only recruit when we have an opening.”

The survey also indicates that employees pay a high price for unplanned turnover. When it occurs, nearly 68 percent of employers temporarily split job responsibilities among remaining employees, and nearly 31 percent of companies offer overtime to existing employees to fill the gap. While these may be viable short-term options for getting work done, increasing direct employees’ workload for an extended period can lead to a loss of focus, job burnout, decreased morale and even higher turnover.

“PrideStaff recommends a combination approach to minimize the negative effects turnover has on businesses,” says Tammi Heaton, COO of PrideStaff. “We can provide qualified temporary employees to meet immediate, short-term needs, while simultaneously searching for full-time replacements. By supporting clients’ teams with a bench of ready talent, we can help them increase productivity, retention and profitability.”
